Professional Tax Depreciation Quantity Surveyors
The year 1999-2000 saw the completion of three particularly significant projects for BDP, the Royal Opera House, co-designed with Dixon Jones; the new Manchester Marks & Spencer store; and the second stage of redevelopment at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the Millennium Building. All these projects have had great success with their clients and the public but the winner, the Millennium Building, combined all that with being the best example of integrated design by BDP’s architects, engineers and other specialists.
The company will relocate from their current headquarters in Berkeley Square. Jones Lang LaSalle acted for Prudential and Knight Frank represented J Waiter Thompson. Tax Depreciation is the process in which an expense is charged to the property or item over its life line. In addition a 600 sq m (6400 sq ft) restaurant and a further retail unit will be provided on Raphael Street. The retail space is due to open in Summer 2001 and the offices are scheduled for completion to Category A finish in October 2001.
The Millennium Building, described by The Independent as “as breath of fresh air for the world’s most famous tennis club, a design that is modern and – dare it be uttered? – rather mod”, houses a championship population of 4,000 people. It integrates facilities for five groups of users competitors, officials, international press, ball boys and girls, and members.
The building is designed around the convivial idea of ‘lidos and gardens’ allowing its users to enjoy the open summer atmosphere unique to the Wimbledon championships. These relaxation spaces form a backdrop to 20,000 M2 of key operational space. On 12 October BDP Director Tony McGuirk received the award, a stainless steel sphere designed by Dail Behannah, on behalf of the whole design team. Prudential has pre-let two thirds of its landmark office development at 1 Knightsbridge Green, London SW1, to international media and advertising agency J Waiter Thompson.
J Waiter Thompson has taken 7,560 sq m (81,350 sq ft) of offices on floors 1-5, on a lease of 20 years. Prudential is currently carrying out a major refurbishment of 1 Knightsbridge Green, which represents a third of its Knightsbridge landholding, to provide 2,650 sq m (28,500 sq ft) of modern retail space with double height frontages to Bromplon Road.
